Conquering the Fear of Fear © 2007 Heart Tones

ou may have heard the old saying that the word “fear” is an acronym for “false evidence appearing real.” Recently a friend shared with me her fear of taking a higher position at work that required skill sets she felt she did not have.
Her boss must have seen her potential because he continued to offer this opportunity to her. Finally, she reluctantly agreed to take the job and to her surprise, she excelled immediately! Although she had not done the work before, once she decided that she COULD do it, she DID it.
Fear keeps many people from moving out of stagnant situations, bad relationships and self-defeating behaviors. My friend conquered the fear of “fear” by making the decision to move out of her comfort zone and move into her next level growth experience.
If fear can keep you from moving forward and upward, it will. The next time it knocks on your door inviting you to retard positive growth in your life, remember that it is just “false evidence appearing real.”
