It's Okay to Be Just You

Just being “you” is easier said than done. The desire for others to perceive us positively can cause us to wear masks to protect ourselves from their opinions and judgments. We want to be liked and accepted and find out pretty quickly that not everyone will like us, regardless of what we do or say.
Even wearing the masks doesn’t guarantee that others will accept or approve of us. We must understand that no one is perfect and those that seem perfect are masking imperfections too.
This elusive search for perfection has caused many people to lose sight of just being who they are—a human being, being human. Regardless of our faults and idiosyncrasies, each of us is unique and has something special to give. Accepting and loving ourselves just as we are can help us to start shedding layers of the masks and become more comfortable with who we really are.
What others think of us matters but what matters the most is what we think of ourselves. “Free to be me” is a slogan we can all reach for as a reality in our lives. No one is like you in the entire universe! The next time your thoughts take you to the shores of negativity, shift your mind to the riverbanks of positive acceptance. Laugh at the false illusion of perfection. Forgive yourself. Love and be ‘‘you”. It’s really okay.
