Feminine Standard~
By Rachel Eagle Reiter
B
eauty standards are constantly in flux. From decade to decade, the beauty
standards are evolving. If we womben suffer from low self-esteem, we will
be caught up in the currents of fads and popularity. Appearances do matter,
but who a person is, matters even more.
I would like for you to imagine a cup. It is a perfectly beautiful cup,
carved by an expert. It has shapes and designs on the outside of it that
are interesting to look at. It is a lovely color. What is your absolute
favorite color? That is the exact color of the cup you should be imagining.
Now, imagine that you are looking inside of that altogether lovely cup. You
begin to pour a refreshing beverage into your cup, but just in time you
notice that the cup is not clean. In fact, not only is the cup not clean,
but it is filthy.
Many of us [womben] have become like this cup. We have adorned ourselves
outwardly and spent loads of time, energy and money into turning ourselves
into a picture perfect image of wombanhood that is presented to us by the
media.
However, we have paid little or no attention to our femininity within. We
have settled for appearing beautiful outwardly, while our souls suffer from
neglect. Now it is time for us [womben] to pay attention to our souls and
be free from ugliness within--pride, greed, envy and vanity.
We need soulfood. Soulfood is more important than counting the calories on
the back of the chip bag. I'm not suggesting that letting go of one's self
is the solution. Absolutely not. However, how we appear to be on the
outside, ought to be a reflection of who we are inwardly.
As much time as we put into making ourselves appear beautiful, we should be
putting at least triple that time into actually becoming beautiful. Our
femininity is a light that shines from within. If we are nurturing, loving,
hopeful, peaceful and joyful, then we will be the new feminine standard.
