n today’s world of technology, we experience interconnectivity through cell phones, text messaging, television, instant messaging and e-mail, you can become overwhelmed, taxing your emotional system and create stress. In spite of the ability to communicate more spontaneously and contrary to popular belief, we are more emotionally distant from one another. Ongoing emotional reactivity to stress can lead to unease and anxiety.
In order to transform draining emotions you need to acknowledge what you are feeling and how your body reacts. The most effective process to elevate this dynamic is easy and affordable.
• Notice and name the feeling—Take a few minutes to focus on what you are feeling. Naming the feeling gives it credibility. Feelings are legitimate. Being attuned to what you feel helps regulate your emotional energy and empowers you. Thus, you can redirect your emotional energy to work for you instead of leaving you feeling drained.
• Acknowledge how you are feeling—anger, worry, fear, sadness, frustration, hurt, anxiety, or a vague feeling you can not clearly define. If you fight your feelings or push them away, they will gain energy and momentum. By acknowledging and befriending the feeling you slow the emotional energy running within your system.
• Sit in a chair with your back comfortably resting on the back. Close your eyes—take a deep breath—blow the air out through your mouth. Gently focus in on your heart, relax as you breathe, and gently blow the stress out. Repeat the process three times. Notice the unwanted emotion leave your body.
Remember to ease out the unwanted emotion—avoid forcing it out.
Using this process for 3-5 minutes or longer, until you feel your body lighten will create a noticeable shift in your body, mind and spirit.
